Dr. Fermín Capitán obtained both his undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and his MSc in Molecular and Cellular Immunology at the University of Granada, Spain.

In 2009 he obtained a research contract to conduct a PhD in the field of Biomedicine, successfully completing his Thesis in December 2013.

During the predoctoral stage, he built strong collaborations with biotech companies and liaised with KOL and other experts in the clinical medicine and drug discovery field.

Dr. Capitán Cañadas was awarded two internships at renowned international research centers in Europe:

  • the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) of the University of Edinburgh, UK
  • the Core Facility for Germ-free Research of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden

Among the formal recognitions received is the “Official College of Pharmacists of Granada Award” granted by the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Eastern Andalusia in 2013 and the “Dr. Modesto Laza Palacios Award” for the Best PhD Thesis granted by the Official College of Pharmacists of Málaga in 2015.

In 2015, he began as the director of Research & Education at Facialteam. This role includes acting as the liaison between national and international collaborating centers and academic institutions on two levels: coordinating medical research and also pioneering the development of formerly non-existent learning opportunities in facial feminization surgery aimed at specialists.

Dr. Capitán Cañadas has published his research in international peer-reviewed journals and co-edited several book chapters, as well as presented several scientific posters and oral communications at national and international conferences.

Dr. Fermín Capitán is a full member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) since 2016, continuously supporting the association in the development of evidence-based medicine to promote high quality care for transgender individuals internationally.
