Best Breast Augmentation Options for Trans Women

If you’re considering breast augmentation as part of your journey, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s talk about how Facialteam, a clinic known for its expertise in Trans Healthcare, can help you achieve the body that feels right for you. This guide, reviewed by Breast Augmentation Expert Dr. Pietro Di Mauro, aims to walk you through everything you need to know about breast augmentation at Facialteam – from the first consultation to feeling fantastic after surgery.

What is a Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is all about enhancing the size and shape of your breasts using implants or fat transfer. For many trans women, this is an important step towards feeling more comfortable and confident in their bodies.

How is a Breast Augmentation different for a Trans Woman?

While the technique and materials used for breast augmentation are always the same for both Trans and Cisgender women, it’s important to consider the different aspects of each patient. Trans women usually present a larger chest circumference and thicker pectoral muscles, which can affect or limit the placement and size of implants. It’s essential to approach each person’s needs with empathy and understanding to achieve a result that helps them feel comfortable and confident in their bodies.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information and to schedule a consultation.

Thinking about breast augmentation?

Speak with our highly experienced breast augmentation surgeon who, after a careful revision of your case, will recommend how to approach your desired look. A consultation with our team will help clarify any questions or doubts you may have.

How does HRT affect Breast Augmentation for Trans Women?

We highly recommend our Trans patients to have been on Hormone Replacement Therapy for at least one year before considering breast augmentation. This timeline allows for optimal natural breast growth, which can significantly impact the final outcome in a positive way.

During this time, HRT encourages the development of breast tissue. This natural growth can be one of the most affirming aspects of transitioning, but it takes time, breast tissue gradually fills out and settles into what might become its final shape and size.

Waiting for a year allows this natural development to occur fully. By giving the body time, both the patient and the surgeon can assess the volume of breast growth and make a safer and more accurate approach.

Moreover, the quality of the breast tissue improves with HRT. Estrogen softens the skin and enhances its elasticity, making it better able to support implants. Surgery performed too early, before the breast tissue has fully developed, may result in implants that don’t sit well or look unnatural, and the likelihood of complications increases.

For your safety, our team will thoroughly review your medical history and perform a comprehensive physical examination, which may involve various tests like blood work or a mammogram.

Also, we will offer you various implant options, including silicone or saline, and round or anatomical shapes. We will guide you through an understanding of how each choice can affect the appearance and sensation of your breasts, empowering you to make an informed decision in line with your objectives.

In the final stages of the consultation, we will cover the intricate details of the surgery, such as implant placement (subglandular or submuscular) and the recovery process. We aim to ensure your peace of mind and readiness for the procedure.

Should I have my Breast Augmentation with Facialteam?

At Facialteam, we understand that choosing the right implants and placement is an important decision for our patients. We typically recommend round silicone gel implants, 1st or 2nd grade, for their ability to maintain shape over time. It’s important to note that these implants don’t have a specific “expiration date”, and replacement is only necessary if the implants rupture or if aesthetic results require revision over time. Regular check-ups are recommended to monitor implant condition, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

When it comes to implant placement, we take into consideration your unique anatomy and the chosen implant size. Subglandular placement is often recommended for larger implants or in cases of tuberous breasts, while submuscular placement provides added safety and stability.

We understand that the choice of incision technique is also important. We normally go for the Inframammary Incision (under the breast), since the Axillary (armpit) Incision, even though it may be popular for being less visible, our experience says it’s even more visible, especially on specific occasions like wearing suspenders. In any case, we are here to discuss the benefits and considerations of each option, and to provide the understanding care, and support that you deserve throughout your journey with us.

We also provide the option of fat transfer to complement and enhance the natural appearance and sensation of the breasts. This can be a wonderful choice for adding the finishing touches to achieve the desired results.

How is the Recovery Process after a Breast Augmentation for a Trans Woman?

After your surgery, it’s important to give yourself the time and care needed to rest and heal. It’s completely normal to experience soreness and swelling during this time. The clinic will provide you with detailed instructions on how to manage any pain and support the healing process.

Typically, it takes around 3-4 weeks to recover, you can start to gradually resume your normal activities around the fourth week. If you got surgery at the same time as Facial Feminization Surgery, the recovery time will vary based on the specific procedures you underwent.

It’s crucial to be careful not to do any exercises or activities that could strain your pectoral muscles, as this could cause the implants to shift temporarily. Wearing a supportive bra for at least one month can help the implants stay in place while your body forms a protective capsule around them.

At Facialteam, we are here to provide ongoing support to ensure that your recovery is as smooth as possible and that you achieve the results you are hoping for. Typically, we schedule postoperative check-ups for 8-10 days after your surgery, with further visits arranged based on your comfort and needs. Remember, we are here for you every step of the way.

Occasionally, patients may encounter temporary back discomfort as a result of the length of the surgery, or Mondor’s syndrome, a condition marked by a tender, cord-like area near the incision. Luckily, this typically improves with time.
