This year at Facialteam, we celebrate LGBTQIA+ Acceptance with Pride 2021 by reflecting on inclusivity advancements in gender affirmation. Part of our work has been connecting communities for the past ten years, on a path towards a better world. Why? Because there is space for everyone and because we wholeheartedly believe that people of all identities belong, today and always.
Pride 2021 at Facialteam
This mission is essential for us because we understand the need for everyone to live their truth. Being ourselves helps the members of our community to increase their mental and physical well-being.
We don’t subscribe to rainbow capitalism nor only promote inclusivity during Pride Month. Our business is built around PRIDE for everyone, all year long. Raising awareness is a crucial part of what we do.
At Facialteam, we have a social responsibility as members of the professional and LGBTQIA+ communities to shed light on the problems that plague our society. So more and more people understand the need for our LGBTIQ+ citizens to feel welcome, regardless of our gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation, anywhere in the world.
In support of equality, we have proudly sponsored and worked alongside over 50 organizations on four continents to promote our community’s values. So, how can you get involved?
In the fight for equality, we have proudly sponsored and worked alongside over 50 organizations on four continents to promote our community’s values.
In addition, here are four ways to join us in our social media efforts and help us make a difference.
- For example, follow or participate in the Woman I Am weekly affirmations series which we launched on Women’s Day 2021. This campaign is a year-long action of solidarity for our community. It highlights the importance of inclusive pronoun usage as well as the intersectionality behind the women’s and trans movements.
- Our nine-year-old and growing Facebook community of trans individuals is moderated by Facialteamersour chosen family members Sarah O’ Connell, a trans activist and former patient, and Lilia Koss, a long-standing community ally. The peer group connects members to a growing chosen family of allies, experts and trans people who share their experiences.
- Don’t miss the highlight of this iconic month of Pride. On June 28th, International Pride Day, we are live-streaming our 5th episode of our Tea Time series. Join in on the chat about showing Pride with Charlie Martin, a prominent trans athlete, on Instagram @Facialteam at 18h00 CEST (5 PM London). The Tea Time conversations make a statement against governments with anti-trans laws.
- We celebrate PRIDE with our extended Facialteam Family through our Livestream series, “Reflective Conversations on Gender Transition.” In June our 6th episode of the monthly LIVE series tells the story of a proud father of a trans son. Ben is now an advocate running a support group comprised of families who have been blessed with a gender transition experience. The series, hosted by D. M. Maynard, educator and author, shares her expertise of more than 30 years of expertise in workshops and through her books dedicated to the needs of partners, parents, and families of trans individuals.
How science & training backs Pride 2021
Our Training & Education department works closely with surgeons worldwide to improve procedures and services that assist you in confirming your identity and becoming the person you need to be to feel comfortable in your skin. This is an ongoing project that never stops and is just one way we make inroads into the professional sector.
Keeping true to our values and community’s needs, our Research & Development team will soon be publishing our 22nd peer-reviewed scientific publication, titled “Facial Gender Surgery: Systematic Review and Evidence-Based Consensus Guidelines from the International Facial Gender Symposium.”
We invest in the trans community by continually pushing forward advancements in trans healthcare and sharing our findings with the scientific and medical field, where many still have much to learn about inclusive care.
PRIDE 2021 in a reopened Spain
Pride 2021 will be taking place throughout Spain over the next three months. If you are vaccinated, you are welcome to come! Spain is a beautiful country that is full of Pride and offers this statement of acceptance and inclusivity for World Pride. Whether you are celebrating in Sitges, Madrid, or Barcelona, we wish you great Pride from our family to yours.
Our team of chosen family members at Facialteam want to thank you and all of our patients for your unconditional strength and patience. COVID affected many things over the year, but not our encouragement of your goal to live your true colors. We are people and we are all welcome and deserve to be who we are without recourse.
What Facialteam LGBT staff say
A message from a member of our staff:
“It is encouraging to see the way many youth are viewing diversity, particularly when it comes to being more inclusive of gender identity and its intersection with minority status. What will this mean for the LGBTQ+ family in the future? Over the past decade, it has been a true privilege to see so many unique representations of what it means to be trans, nonbinary, or gender-nonconforming and we celebrate each and every one. We see beauty in that there are an infinite number of possibilities. These initials or labels that confine us into a limited number of pronouns are just social constructs that impede the expression of the grand diversity and fluidity of gender identity as we grow and age. So this year, hope is renewed for more safe spaces where trans, gender-queer and intersex people are able to openly explore their identities outside the boundaries of a fixed and rigid gender binary, where the closet is just a place to hide our clothes, not our true selves. Hope is renewed for increased protections of the LGBTQ+ rights as well as an ever growing stronghold of allies dedicated to making a difference.”
LGBT+ Pride is 51 years young
In commemoration of the pivotal #PRIDE demonstration, the tradition was sparked by the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City 51 years ago in response to violent police raids of LGBT+ bars. A community-lead rebellion in which minority group trans women, Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, a latina and black woman, played central figures who are still remembered. International Pride Day was born of the united voices of the feminist, black, antiwar and gay liberation movements for a common cause: social justice.
What occurred on this day in 1969 is remembered as a turning point for LGBTIQ+ acceptance around the world. Today, over half a century later, many say #itgetsbetter. However, with debate on trans youth in sport and trans access to healthcare as well as government-backed LGBT-free zones happening in modern society, it’s clear that there is still a way to go.
Facialteam asks you too to celebrate diversity and support the protection of the LGBTQ+ community’s rights to social inclusion. This will only be possible with the outspoken voices of activist groups and support from many allies like us.
Happy International Pride!
