New Research & Development Department to modernize concepts of Facial Gender
FACIALTEAM continues to decisively invest in research, training and development, three key points in building a solid company base of a medical and surgical nature. Born of the need for new investigation on concepts of facial gender, the team announces the creation in 2015 of the Department of Research and Development, a project that will be spearheaded by Dr. Fermín Capitán Cañadas.
Dr. F. Capitán obtained both his undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and his MSc in Molecular and Cellular Immunology at the University of Granada, Spain. In 2009 he obtained a research contract to conduct a PhD in the field of Biomedicine, successfully completing his thesis in December 2013.
Dr. Capitán Cañadas has published his research in international peer-reviewed journals and co-edited 3 book chapters, as well as presented several scientific posters and oral communications at national and international conferences. During the predoctoral stage, he built strong collaborations with biotech companies and liaised with KOLs and other experts in the clinical medicine and drug discovery field.
Dr. Capitán Cañadas was awarded two internships at renowned international research centres in Europe: firstly at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) of the University of Edinburgh, UK, and secondly at the Core Facility for Germ-free Research of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.
Among the formal recognitions received is the Official College of Pharmacists of Granada Award granted by the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Eastern Andalusia in 2013. He is proud to have been granted several fellowships for attendance to courses, seminars and other scientific events, attending more than 35 congresses and specialization courses.
Under his scientific and research experience, Dr. F. Capitán will lead FACIALTEAM’s future scientific activities, investigative research as well as continuing education events with the primary objective of establishing a solid theoretical foundations in Facial Feminization Surgery, so as to ensure efficient dissemination of modern concepts in FFS and as an outreach to all professionals interested in different aspects of this relatively new and largely unchartered surgical discipline.
The entire team is extremely excited about the addition of our new Director of R&D, with the desire to develop the latest in methodology and advanced facial gender studies in order to continue to offer the best service for our patients
Projects already underway include new scientific articles on FFS surgery techniques, approaches and results as well as the publication of a Facial Feminization chapter in a book on transgender healthcare planned in 2016 by the scientific committee of the European Professional Association of Transgender Healthcare (EPATH).
